Vivian Giang from Business Insider has some great tips to ensure that your resume gets through a company’s screening system:
- Do not place your contact information in the header of your resume, because filtering softwares can be set to ignore headers and footers so there is a risk this information will be deleted.
- Choose a conservative font such as Verdana, Arial, Tahoma, or Calibri. Gillis says that serif fonts, such as Times Roman or Cambria may be rejected by screening software.
- Do not use any script fonts.
- The smallest font size to use for the body of your resume should be 11 point. “Any smaller and you’re probably asking for trouble.”
- No graphics or logos.
- Do not format using tables.
- No borders.
- A one-inch margin top and bottom is best.
- Do not use any lines that cross the entire page from margin to margin, because “some filters have been created that will reject a document for nothing more than having a single line run continuously across the page,” he writes.
Anonymous asked: Hey, storm of questions here. In state competitions, what is the average for the test scores? How bad can your test score be that you don't have any hopes of placing? For previous competitions, I have kind of studied the practice tests, but my second to latest test, I got in the 80s. My latest ones I studied the practice tests SERIOUSLY this time and a bunch of other material, but I still feel like I did badly on it. I now have no motivation to practice b/c I think I can't place. Advice?
Hi! Testing is a relative score, so how well you do compared to your competitors is ultimately what determines its influence in your chances of placing. Most people disregard the importance of testing but it is actually a very very very crucial aspect to roleplay and some written events! I would say mid-high 80’s is the absolute lowest you should be at in terms of scores.
However all hope is not lost. Never give up! Keep taking those practice tests and make sure that in addition to taking tests you READ THE KEYS. They give really good explanations for certain concepts that might show up in future tests.
Continue to study hard and you should be fine (:
